Development of Key Techniques and Industrilizationn Application for High Nickel Cathode-based Lithium Ion Batteries

Abstract: Currently, the demands for high energy-density lithium ion batteries are especially urgent to improve the driving range of EVs. Meanwhile, how to solve the safety issues of batteries is also vital for the development of EVs. In this talk, I will introduce our recent work on the design and production of high-nickel NCM cells from the industrial perspective.

Biography: Dr. Hong-Li Zhang is the director of Battery Research Center at Hefei Guoxuan High-tech Power Energy Co. Ltd., which is a listed company (SZ stock code 002074) in China focusing on the production of high-performance power lithium ion batteries for EVs. He initiated his research on lithium ion batteries from 2003 and received his Ph.D degree in 2008 from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Afterwards he went to the University of California, Santa Barbara as a postdoc. In 2012, he left the academic career and started his industry venture. He led a team and successfully built a highly-automatic mass-production line with an annual production capability of 3GWh for NCM cells. His recent interests put on the development of high-nickel cathode-based (Ni%>60%), large-capacity (>40AH/cell), prismatic lithium ion batteries, which have attracted huge application demands from EVs.
